HerpNET folks and Georeferencers:

I have posted the much acclaimed (or infamous) "Georeferencing For
Dummies" Rough guide to georeferencing on the documents page of the
website, at
http://www.herpnet.org/documents.html

This is a color-coded excel file that can be printed out for your
convenience and explains different types of localities and how to
georeference them and determine their error & extent easily. If you
wouldl, please make COMMENTS & complaints to me on the listserv about
this document, as we would like to use it widely for other projects,
such as ORNIS, BioGeoMancer, etc. and would like to make sure that the
methodologies match what people have been using/ how they have been
interpreting John W's Georeferencing guidelines.

This is supposed to be an easily-used table for folks to georeference
from, and includes more unusal locality types (caves, river mouths, etc)
as well as ever-day ones. Also note the "How to Georeference when there
is more than one possiblity" option, never before disclosed in the
georeferencing guidelines (at least not in this form).

After taking comments, I will be posting this to its own website.

See what you think, comments are very much encouraged, note that we
consider this a "Beta"Version.

Carol and friends
(much thanks to Kristina Yamamoto and Janet Fang for creating and
editing much of the "Georeferencing for Dummies")
