Probably you all have seen this but there is a good article in  
ArcUser Jan-Mar 06 titled, Sharing and accessing biodiversity data  
globally.  Both MaNIS and HerpNET are mentioned plus other aspects of  
our thematic network.  One of my GIS colleagues brought it to my  
attention.
