Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year from the Specify
Software Team.
We look forward to collaborating with you and supporting your
institutional collection data management in 2011.
Our development and support objectives for Specify in 2011 will focus
on: web technologies, enhancing data uptake and validation through the
Specify WorkBench, implementing batch processing functions, responding
to the software requirements of projects and networks funded by the U.S.
National Science Foundation's ADBC program for biological collection
computerization, and fostering co-development and co-support
collaborations with biocollection institutions around the globe.
We will also complete the conversion of Specify 5 databases to Specify 6
in 2011. Remaining Specify 5 sites should contact us in early 2011 to
schedule a conversion.
The Project is also pleased to announce today the availability of an
update: Specify 6.2.08 "Herrick Brown". The release is named after the
discoverer of several related security system issues which this version
corrects. Additional improvements are listed below.

21 December 2010

Issues resolved in this release:
1. Taxon author fields for genus, species, and variety are now
available in the QueryBuilder. 2010-12-09 (7827).
2. During WorkBench uploads, duplicate localities are no longer
saved when GeoCoordDetail field contents are in error. 2010-12-14
(8048).
3. The Edit Pick List window no longer resizes incorrectly after
the first Pick List item is entered. 2010-12-09 (8176).
4. Forms which contain Query Combo Boxes, where the QCBs reference
Collection Objects now save properly. 2010-12-13 (8179).
5. Queries with search synonymy enabled and which contain fields
from more than one data tree no longer cause an error. 2010-12-16
(8180).
6. Changes to permissions no longer erroneously clear the Agent
name field in the Security window. 2010-12-16 (8186).
7. Users assigned to two or more collections are now able to change
collections from Change Collections menu. 2010-12-14 (8189).
Major Upgrade for Security
1. The Specify security system was not checking the correct
permissions when logging in, for users who were assigned to two or more
collections. Although the security system would select a set of
privileges for that user it did not always choose the correct
permissions for the chosen Collection. Any permissions that were
previously set for individual users who were assigned to two or more
collections must be removed in order to fix the problem; those
permissions will need to set again. Several bugs related to this problem
were fixed.
