There seems to be universal consensus that the giant weed is giant
hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum Sommier& Levier) whose
phytotoxic juices cause a blistering dermatitis on contact with human skin
and sunlight. A native of the Caucasus, it is naturalized in Europe and
parts of eastern and western North America. Stalin can take no credit
for it. Thanks to all of you (9) who responded.
