New versions of the DELTA programs for MS-DOS are now available by gopher or
anonymous ftp from the following Internet hosts.
huh.harvard.edu (directory: /pub/software/delta/msdos)
life.anu.edu.au (directory: /pub/biodiversity/delta/msdos)
spider.ento.csiro.au (directory: /delta/msdos)
The Internet distribution package consists of text files *.1st and
self-expanding files *.exe. Download.1st contains this information about
downloading the files, changes.1st contains the revision history of the
programs, and delta.1st describes the procedure for installing the programs on
an MS-DOS computer. The files must be transmitted in binary mode, set by the
ftp command `binary'. (Failure to do so will result in the error message
`HeaderC Error' when the .exe files are run.)
Place the files in the directory C:\DELTA on your MS-DOS computer. Then follow
the installation procedure described in delta.1st, but omit the XCOPY command.
The date of this release is 16 May 1994. The changes from the previous
release (17 December 1993) are as follows.

A bug associated output of real numeric and text characters in INTKEY format
was fixed (it could occur when the MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ITEMS was greater than

is, it does not add the word `to' before the upper values (if required, this
word must be in the character list).

starting with the same words was fixed.
Version 2.04, 8 March 1994. The error message on failure to open a scratch
file was improved.

PageDown to continue' is displayed the first time the main display area fills.
SET AUTOBEST 1 sets the parameter to the total number of taxa.
Version 2.07, 24 January 1994. Spurious warning messages associated with the
ITEM ABUNDANCES directive were fixed.
Version 2.01, 8 February 1994. Checking for incorrect specification of the
number of OTU's was improved. Options for output of tree descriptions in
Phylip, Nexus, or Hennig86 formats were added, and the default extension of
the tree-description files was changed from .PCL to .TRE.
Version 2.06, 8 March 1994. A misleading error message given on attempting to
make a file with an empty name was fixed. Box-arithmetic errors were made soft
failures. Memory management was modified in the OS/2 version to allow editing
of files up to about 5MB.
