History and Aims of ISIR
The International Society of Invertebrate Reproduction (ISIR) was formed in
1975 at an inaugural congress in Calicut, India. Subsequent congresses (and
meeting) have been held in Davis, California, USA (1979); Newcastle-upon-Tyne,
U.K. (1981, meeting); Tubingen, Germany (1983); Lille, France (1986); Nagoya,
Japan (1989); and Dublin, Ireland (1992).
The 7th International Congress of ISIR will continue to promote the study of
invertebrate reproduction and provide a forum for all those interested in any
aspects of the reproductive biology of invertebrates.
Symposiums of the 7th International Congress
The following symposiums are being organized:
Mechanisms of oocyte maturation and fertilization J. Ram & M. Hoshi
Dichotomous spermatogenesis M. Friedlander & A. Hodgson
Defense mechanisms of embryos D. Epel

Reproductive biology in the deep sea J. Barry, P. Tyler, & C. Young
Phylogenetic systematics and life history evolution D. Lindberg & D. McHugh
Role of juveniles in life histories L. Basch
Propagation of introduced species for aquaculture S. Allen & D. Hedgecock
There will be ample opportunity for contributed papers on these and other
topics.
Congress Proceedings
Proceedings from the congress, both symposiums and contributed papers, will
be published as a volume of the journal lnvertebrate Reproduction &
Development. All submissions will be subject to editorial review.
Timelines
Requests for registration materials (see attached) should be sent to Santa
Cruz to arrive before 31 November 1994. The deadline for registration and
receipt of abstracts is 31 March 1995.
Features of the 7th ICIR
The congress will be hosted by the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA.
The singularly beautiful setting overlooking Monterey Bay, the affordable
lodging in apartments set in the redwoods, and the comfortable meeting rooms
and lecture halls offered by the UCSC campus will ensure a productive and
enjoyable meeting. The congress, beginning with a welcome party the evening
of Saturday, August 5th and ending with check-out on Friday, August 11th 1995,
