My "favorite" couplet as an entomology student was in the key to beetle
families in Borror, DeLong and Tripplehorn. It ran something like "tarsi
apparently 5-5-4" (if the details are wrong, the substance is
correct!). This stumped me, since it seemed to require an assessment of
the average key-user's ability to find the
difficult-but-not-impossible-to-see first segment...
