This is a unique opportunity to join the Royal Botanic Gardens,
nd Herbarium Division.  You will be
required to prepare and undertake a detailed five-year research plan
of specialised genetic research on selected plants or plant
communities; seek external funding for research and monitor
expenditure; and collaborate with systematic botanists on projects
concerning the conservation of Australian flora. You will provide
advice on conservation issues to the RBG and other organisations.
You may be required to supervise post-graduate students and deliver
lectures at local tertiary institutions.

For this position you will need to have a PhD or equivalent
experience; demonstrated ability in genetic analysis including
allozymes and DNA sequencing; and extensive knowledge of molecular
population genetics and plant breeding systems.  A sound knowledge
of ecological methods and theory is required. You must be able to
attract external funds, communicate effectively on botanical
matters, and have a good knowledge of the Australian flora.

The position is offered for a five year term. You will be based at
the National Herbarium of Victoria, South Yarra, but a considerable
amount of time will be spent at La Trobe University, Bundoora,
utilising the laboratory facilities of the School of Genetics and
Human Variation.
