ELECTRONIC SELECTIVE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION

November 30, 1994

Information Transfer Center
National Biological Survey
Fort Collins, Colorado

GENERAL

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) information packages
have been used for many years to meet on-going information needs
of many clients in a variety of disciplines. These packages
serve as a current awareness mechanism to current literature,
research, sales or a host of other activities.

The SDI project of the National Biological Survey is an
information transfer product of the databases Wildlife/Fisheries
Review. Annually over 24,000 citations from over 1300 journals,
several hundred books and symposia, and several hundred theses
and dissertations are added to the databases. The scope of the
databases are primarily wild vertebrate biology, ecology, and
management and related disciplines.

To assist natural resource managers and researchers in keeping
aware of the current published literature, the electronic SDI
project has been implemented to provide the passive transfer of
such literature. Presently NBS is offering four SDI literature
packages: WETLANDS, ENDANGERED AND THREATENED SPECIES,
CONTAMINANTS, and AQUACULTURE. Bear in mind that the literature
provided must fall within the scope of coverage of the two
Reviews i.e., wetland literature pertaining directly to wild
vertebrates, wild vertebrate endangered species, the effects of
contaminants on wild vertebrates, and aquaculture of fin fish.

These four SDI packages will be made available for a six month
test period ending June 1995. At the end of test period, the
useage and costs associated to provide the SDIs will be
evaluated.

Subscribers to the project will automatically receive the
requested SDI(s) on a monthly basis. The files will be in
WordPerfect 5.1 format.

Type AUTO WETLANDS, AUTO ENDANGERED SPECIES, AUTO CONTAMINANTS,
or AUTO AQUACULTURE as the only entry on the subject line. No
information on the message line will be read. If you wish to
subscribe to more than one SDI you must send a separate request
for each SDI.

If you later want to cancel this subscription, send a message
using the same access as before with COMMENTS as the only entry
on the subject line and a message asking for the AUTO WETLANDS,
AUTO ENDANGERED SPECIES, AUTO CONTAMINANTS, or AUTO AQUACULTURE
subscription to be cancelled.

If you are a new subscriber and wish to receive past SDIs, send a
message to NBSITCLIB (by accessing as before) and type SEND PAST
WETLANDS, SEND PAST ENDANGERED SPECIES, SEND PAST CONTAMINANTS,
or SEND PAST AQUACULTURE in the subject line. Note: this project
started in December 1994 with November 1994 information. Three
months of SDIs will be archived on the server to be sent as
"PAST" information.
