Electronic vs paper publ.

Mon Oct 30 14:58:32 CST 1995

In regard to R. Hasting's suggestion that electronic publications are
potentially less lasting than paper publications:

well, that's what we have librarians for, to preserve publications. Sure
present data on disks is shoddily kept, except for librarians, who
are surely alert to failing magnetic signals and changing formats.

Also: electronic publications will surely be read more than paper
journals...the existence of a paper journal somewhere is no measure
of its actual contribution to science.
