Well, in my opinion, a taxonomist should be ready to help somebody
who needs to identify organisms, particularly if he is well
acquainted with these organisms. But to help is not doing all the
job. Somebody doing research must be able to identify by himself the
organisms he is working on (otherwise, he should do something else).
Morever, the taxonomist should require to keep good specimens to
be deposited in a suitable place (if he is interested in doing so, of
course). There is no obligation for a taxonomist to answer all
requests. If somebody wants more, he should be ready to
pay, in money or coauthorship.
