A Mini-Symposium: BIOLOGICAL NOMENCLATURE IN THE 21st CENTURY
Presented by the BEES Group in the College of Life Sciences
University of Maryland at College Park
INVITATION, DIRECTIONS AND INFORMATION
Members of the biological community are invited to attend a three-hour
seminar to be held on Monday, 4 November 1996, in Room 1208 of the Zoo-Psych
Building on the College Park Campus of the University of Maryland.
The session will start at noon.
Three speakers will present their views on the importance and need of codes
of nomenclature in the 21st century. They are Dr. Dan H. Nicolson, Dr. John
McNeill and Dr. Kevin de Queiroz. Abstracts of their papers and other

This special seminar is open to the public. Students are encouraged to
attend. While light refreshments will be served, everyone is encouraged to
bring a brown-bag lunch. Fast food is available in the nearby Adele Stamp
Student Union. Public parking is available in PG-2 located next to the
Zoo-Psych Building.
Visitors coming to the Campus can take the Green Line to the College Park
Station and proceed to the Campus via public or university buses. The station
is about one-half mile east of the Route 1 entrance to the Campus. Persons

CALL FOR COMMENTARIES AND PUBLICATION OF PAPERS
The participants of the seminar have agreed to provide manuscripts for
publication electronically. A call is hereby given to anyone who may wish to
provide a commentary for formal publication. All will be subject to review
and editing. Comments are particularly requested on the Draft BioCode. See:

Individuals who attended the recent gathering at ICSEB V where the Draft
was discussed, and the meeting at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden where a
phylogenetic approach to nomenclature was presented, are encouraged to
submit their views. All commentaries should be sent via email no later than
15 November 1996 to Dr. James L. Reveal at jr19 at umail.umd.edu
