According to Duke, J. A.  1981  (Handbook of Legumes of World Economic
Importance.  Plenum, New York) jicama is Pachyrhizus erosus (L.) Urban.
Common names include yam bean, manioc pea, jicama de agua (Mex.) and many
local names in China, India, and Central America.  A list of 12 synonyms
follows, however Pachyrhizus tuberosus is not among them.  I hope this
