        The Systematics Association
        First Biennial Conference
        St Anne's College, Oxford University,
        19-21 Aug 1997

The Systematics Association is pleased to announce a new biennial series of
conferences, the first of which will be held this year in Oxford, the
purpose of which is to provide a forum where students, amateurs and
professional systematists can present their research and discuss topics of
interest. The new series of conferences will provide a regular forum where
the systematics community can gather to discuss its work.

The conferences will be designed to cover broad subject areas of interest
to systematists working on a wide range of organisms and using different
techniques. They are particularly intended to enable systematists at an
early stage in their career to present their work to a diverse,
professional audience.

The first conference will include both an open programme and a more
focused, thematic programme. For the open programme, 15 minute talks and
posters on any branch of systematics will be welcome, and students are
particularly encouraged to come and present their work. The topics of the
open programme will include:

Phylogeny Reconstruction
Alpha Taxonomy
Molecular Systematics
Systematics and Ecology
Ancient and Modern Biodiversity
Microbial Systematics

For the First Biennial Conference, the thematic programme will include
contributions by leading international experts on:

1. Character conceptualisation, primary homology and systematic solutions
2. Analysing large molecular datasets
3. Communicating systematic information.

Registration fees are as follows:
Waged SA members 35 GBP (45 after April 1st)
Waged non-members 50 GBP (60 after April 1st)
Unwaged or students 10 GBP

Accommodation at St Anne's College ranges from 35 GBP per night for a
single room to 100GBP for a twin family room.
