No, they reveal patterns. Processes can be inferred from those
patterns. What "process" do you see in a stick diagram without making
inferences from the pattern?

Characters certainly evolve.

I'm sorry, but I cant make heads or tails out of the rest of the
posting. Perhaps if we could agree on the above two points, the rest
would start to fall out....
