                   UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN


The Bolus  Herbarium seeks  a curator  for its  collections of
Mesembryanthemaceae (Angiosperms).   The  Bolus holds the most
comprehensive herbarium collection of Mesembryanthemaceae, and
amounts to  10% of  the main  herbarium collection  of 350 000
specimens. The  family   is an  important constituent  of  the
succulent flora  of South Africa, and there is active research
on the  taxonomy and  ecology  of  this  family  both  at  the
University and at Kirstenbosch.

The successful  candidate  will  be  expected  to  curate  the
collections,  conduct   research  into  the  taxonomy  of  the
Mesembryanthemaceae, and  communicate with  other  researchers
and students.   A degree in Botany or equivalent experience is
the minimum  requirement, and the applicant should have a good
knowledge  of   taxonomy,     a  meticulous  nature  and  good
communication skills.

The remuneration  package, including  benefits, is  negotiable
between R25  869 -  R51 089 a year, the salary component being
R1 492 - R2 526 a month.  This is a permanent, part-time (22.5
hours a week) post.
