Royalties - institutional policies

I am curious about what type of policies cultural institutions (museums, etc) have with regard to royalties.  If
an employee authors a book, for example, does the money made (royalties) go to the institution in general, is
it spent in a particular area (publishing branch?) or is it used to fund the research of the author?  I would
appreciate responses from anyone who can tell me what their institution does.
