GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS in PLANT BIOLOGY. Graduate assistantships are available for students interested in pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in plant biology (ecology, organismal biology, and molecular biology) at Ohio University in Athens, southeastern Ohio.
The Department of Environmental and Plant Biology is diverse in faculty teaching and research programs, including certain areas of plant biology, e.g., paleobotany, phycology, phylogenetic and molecular systematics, that are typically restricted to large regional academic institutions. The Department is fully equipped for all areas of botanical research, has state-of-the-art computing technology and imaging facilities, and offers a broad array of coursework. Students may also elect to participate in the interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program or the Molecular and Cellular Biology program.
Athens is nestled in a river valley in the Appalachian foothills and is surrounded by numerous local, state and national natural areas available for spiritual refreshment and scientific research. The university and the city are culturally and racially diverse and environmentally progressive ("Utne Reader" magazine recently rated Athens as one of the 10 most progressive cities in America).
The out of state 12-month M.S. stipend is $10,600 per year and includes a $13,124 stipend & fee waiver ($23,724 value); the Ph.D. stipend is $14,000 per year and also includes the $13,124 stipend & fee waiver ($27,124 value).
