Dear Taxacomers,
I would like to announce the availability of a taxonomic database of
locusts and grasshoppers of the world. It includes all genera and species
of the following superfamilies: Eumastacoidea, Trigonopterygoidea,
Pneumoroidea, Acridoidea, and Pamphagoidea (all species described until
1997). Individual taxon records include information on higher taxonomic
position, synonymies (with full references), type locality, type
depository, and, if available, images and sounds of the species.
This database can be found at the site of the Orthoptera Species File
Online. Other resources available there include databases of katydids
(Tettigonioidea, with over 3,600 images and many sound recordings),
crickets (Grylloidea), pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigoidea), and sand hoppers
(Tridactyloidea). Please visit it at:

Access to the databases requires registration but is absolutely free to
everyone. If you feel uncomfortable leaving your name and e-mail address,
use your imagination (although it means that we will be unable to notify
you about new additions and changes to the site).

Best regards, Piotr Naskrecki
