AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE (ARS)
ARS is seeking a permanent full-time Research Entomologist, GS-12/13, in
the Systematic Entomology Laboratory, Plant Sciences Institute, National
Museum of Natural History, Washington D.C. Salary is commensurate with
experience: GS-12: $45,939-$59,725 and GS-13: $54,629-$71,017 per annum,
plus benefits. (Figures for pay increase for January 1998 are not yet
available.) Incumbent plans and conducts independent and cooperative
research primarily on the systematics of weevils (Insecta: Coleoptera,
Curculionidae) and related beetle families of importance to U.S.
agriculture. In addition to the basic educational requirements, applicants
must demonstrate 1) knowledge of general entomology, insect taxonomy,
genetics, ecology, and molecular biology; 2) ability to plan and conduct
research projects; 3) ability to analyze, interpret findings and publish
results; and 4) knowledge of systematic zoology, evolutionary theory, rules
of nomenclature, insect morphology, and physiology. Ph.D. in Entomology or
