Retrining types

Ok, thank you very much for your comments.
A type is a name-bearing standard. So the problem has two
components: the name and the name-bearer.
Like Rod put it, the name may stay, but the name-bearer may fade
away whether we want it or not.

Probably the decay-rates differ from group to group. There may be
groups with name-bearers which last for centuries and other groups
with name-bearers which are very short-lived.
Anyone knows any publication which covers the whole spectrum of
possible life-times?

Another problem are ongoing evolutionary rates which may displace
the actual species from the name which was given to the name-bearer
a long time ago.
