A Collaborative Research Centre between CSIRO Plant Industry=20
and Biodiversity Group, Environment Australia

          SUMMER SCHOLARSHIPS 1998-99

The Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research is a collaborative link between
CSIRO Plant Industry and Biodiversity Group, Environment Australia, that
aims to promote the study, documentation and conservation of Australia=92s
botanical heritage. The research interests of staff in the Centre range
widely across many aspects of the phylogeny and systematics of Australia=92s

To promote the Centre=92s aims and foster the development of interest in=
areas of research, the Centre is offering 2 scholarships during the summer
of 1998-99 in the following areas:

1. Molecular Systematics of the Daisy Genus Helichrysum (Asteraceae)
                (Supervisor Dr R. Bayer.  Ph:  02-6246 5514).

2. An examination of the leaf-morphology of Pultenaea (Fabaceae) within a
cladistic framework.
                (Supervisor Dr. R. de Kok.  Ph:  02-6246 5177).

The scholarships will run for a 12 week period from early December 1998 to
late February 1999. During that time, successful applicants will be expected
to undertake full-time work on the chosen project.  The scholarships are
open for competition among students completing their second or third year of
study in an appropriate discipline at an Australian University. Remuneration
is at a rate of AUS$325 =97 AUS$425 per week depending upon the year of=
of the successful applicant. Income tax is payable on this stipend.

Applications should include a statement of your research interests and
future goals, curriculum vitae, a statement of your current study program
and university transcript, and the names and addresses of two referees, at
least one of whom should be able to comment on your University career. It is
important that all these documents are provided to ensure your application
