1999 STUDENT BOTANICAL INTERSHIP PROGRAM
The Australian National Herbarium, Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research,
Canberra, Australia
_______________________________________________________________

Students of botany, ecology and related disciplines are invited to apply for
the 7th annual volunteer Student Botanical Internship Program.

The Program runs for eight weeks (4th January - 26th February 1999) with up
to 20 placements being offered. The Program is designed for students at the
end of second or third year (although recent graduates are not ruled out),
and is intended to be of benfit to those seeking either professional or
technical careers in plant sciences or conservation management.

Interns will assist staff at the CPBR in Canberra as volunteers, in the
curation of the herbarium collections and in research support. In return,
interns receive a broad spectrum of practical training in collections
management, botany, plant conservation, and job-seeking in the scientific
workforce.

Intern placements are unpaid, and financial and accomodation support are not
available. Nearby university college accomodation is available. Interns work
as registered volunteers, under an arrangement providing free ComCare
insurance cover during working hours. Overseas applicants must have full
personal insurance.
