National Museums & Galleries on Merseyside invite applications for the
following position within Liverpool Museum, Liverpool, UK.

HEAD OF BOTANY (Curator of the Herbarium). Salary 16500-22500 pounds p.a.
Liverpool Museum is seeking an experienced botanist to take charge of the
botany staff, herbarium collections and library within the new department of
collections management and research (science) and to join its management
team. Reporting to the Head of Sciences, your main duties will include
managing the curatorial staff in botany and contributing to the research
programme of NMGM. The herbarium comprises 0.3m specimens, and will shortly
be installed in a new thirty million pound museum development in the city
centre opening in 2002.
Applicants should have at least five years' experience of herbarium
collections management, a record of achievement in research and publication,
a thorough knowledge of the identification of at least one major taxonomic
group and effective management and IT skills. Candidates should have a
degree in botany or similar, preferably with a postgraduate research
qualification and/or the diploma of the Museums Association.

promoting high standards of collections care, improving public access to
