Dear all,

Unfortunately, the new year has brought us some sad news with the death of important biologists. This message is to inform all of you that the eminent Russian helminthologist Dr Aleksander Gusev has passed away on the turn of the year, on 31 of december 1999. Dr Gusev has done some impressive (and monumental) work on the taxonomy and biogeography of Monogenoidea Platyhelminthes which has served (and will continue serving) as a model for the studies on the group. I just hope there are enough worms wherever he went to keep him as busy as he has been on his life on Earth... A Profile of Alec Gusev written by Bob Kabata can be found in Systematic Parasitology 33(1), 79-80 (1996).
