Many such theories are not unreasonable until one tries to put them into
practice, or one tries to work out how one defines or discover such
entities. One question which often seems to remain unanswered is whether
such theories are meant to provide the theoretical background to what we
see, or do we use them to test what we see. My impression is that the
theory often stays theory and practice looks for a rather pragmatic
solution, which may or may not link in with the theory. Or do we just know
too little at present?
