Duties & Responsibilities
Harvard University Herbaria. Assists with curation of vascular plant
and processing of loans. Orients and assists Herbaria users. Answers
correspondence related to collections. Updates the collection according to
recently published monographs.  Performs clerical functions related to the
lending and exchange of specimens using a computerized database; assists in
preparing specimen labels and keeping records.  Inspects collections for
infestation and treats material according to standard herbarium procedures.
Assists curators in standardizing names within the Plant Names Project
authority data records. Improves the consistency and accuracy of the data in
the International Plant Names Index. Checks and edits nomenclature and
bibliographic records for the Plant Names Project.

Required Education, Experience, Skills
College degree with specialized courses pertaining to the taxonomy of vascular
plants and herbarium/museum collections preferred; data entry and computer
skills.  Strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to work independently and in a
team environment.  Ability to lift 40 lbs. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills. Must have excellent problem solving, organizational,
planning and  management skills.
