More on Biogeographic memory

I have appreciated the discussions between Hovenkamp and Grehan: I have
only a passing acquaintance with panbiogeography and only slightly better
understanding of vicariance biogeography. I am still not entirely clear on
the fundamental differences. Are they simply methodological, or are the
practitioners seeking to answer different questions?
I get the impression that the Craw-Grehan-Heads book is perhaps not the
best introduction to panbiogeography for someone with little familiarity.
Is there another reference that is a good starting point?
