The School seeks to further develop its existing strengths in ecology
and conservation biology by appointing an outstanding and innovative
ecologist from any area of the discipline who has a commitment to
applied research. All areas of conservation biology / ecology  will be
given equally strong consideration.  Conservation biology and Ecology
are core component of the undergraduate programmes in Environmental
Management and Biological Sciences, and are major foci of postgraduate
research. The appointee will provide leadership in fostering excellence
in research, teaching and the application of  Ecology /Conservation
Biology. We are seeking applicants with outstanding research track
records, international recognition, excellent teaching and curriculum
development skills, and a demonstrated commitment to environmental
management.  As an academic leadership position the successful applicant
should be able to demonstrate a willingness to collaborate, as well as
past successes in collaborative ventures.

Staff research areas within the School and its research arm, the Centre
for Ecosystem Management, include systems ecology, landscape ecology and
the ecology of arid-zone and rangeland systems,plant diversity and
systematics and their interface with conservation, conservation genetics
and reintroductions of endangered native animals,  coastal and marine
systems, and tissue culture of seagrasses.

The School of Natural Sciences offers undergraduate programs in
Environmental Management, Biological Sciences and Chemistry and has a
flourishing and large postgraduate student body and research program.
The School's research arm, The Centre for Ecosystem Management, has a
substantial research and consulting activity, and is one of the
university's five recognised Research Centres.  The school currently
has 16 academic staff, 35 postgraduate students and 350 undergraduate
