* and every quote is by definition selective - otherwise it would be a
reprint rather than a quote. As far back, at least, as Plato and the
assembly of the Hebrew scriptures, scholarship has always largely
consisted of selectively assembling quotes in such a way as to favour
the author's position on a subject.
