The first release of AMNH Digital Library site
representing the results of the
American Museum Congo Expedition
(1909-1915) -- also known familiarly as
the "Lang-Chapin Expedition"  is at:

In sum, the project incorporates

19,791 pages of formal scientific and conservation publications
(imaged, transcribed and marked up in XML using our project-designed DTD)
16,352 specimen records from field notes (imaged and transcribed),
33 African maps & a GIS viewer
2,000+ photographs
56 watercolors
film/video
biological and anthropological sound recordings
vertebrate specimen data.

Through detailed agreements with the AMNH Anthropology Division, data and 
images of artifacts (captured over the past 10 years with the support of 
NEH) are integrated directly from the AMNH Anthropology collections 
databases)


Among collateral scientific benefits are the capture of more than 6,000 
ornithology specimen records (previously unavailable) and transcription of 
anthropology and ichthyology field notes previously unavailable to those 
research departments
