Obviously the new Flora Neotropica volume is an excellent reference.
(Also the earlier Flora of the Guianas)
I was just assuming that entomologists do not have it handy.

The Tropicos-database is indeed a great resource, but not infallible.
The other day I was looking at two Ocotea-species which had been reduced to
synonymy by Jens Rohwer in 1986, namely 1) Ocotea barcellensis, now Ocotea
cymbarum, and 2) Ocotea pretiosa now Ocotea odorifera.
The Tropicos database follows only the first and maintains Ocotea pretiosa
and Ocotea odorifera as separate species. Apparently this is because the
first does occur in the area of the Flora of the Venezuelan Guyana and thus
was reviewed by the Missouri Botanical Garden, while the second occurs
outside this area and was not reviewed?

Best, Paul van Rijckevorsel
