I have also tried MapPad (http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/paleo/softlib/mappad.html),
but the resolution of the figures is not very good if intended for publication
or a nice presentation. As a reference it is very useful, but, if you want good
resolution maps try the "On line map creation" web page at
http://www.aquarius.geomar.de/omc/. Once created, you can download and edit
your map in a graphic editor.
