On 22 Jan 2003 we posted a request for information on a "strange" bird that
was visiting us in Montrose, Colorado (see
http://www.life.umd.edu/emeritus/reveal/pbio/FindIt/newbird.html). We
received a number of suggestions. We have concluded that this is a
partially albinistic pink-sided dark-eyed junco (Junco hyemalis mearnsi) as
this bird has a local modification of a portion of the body creating a
distinctive pattern on the sides of the face, throat and breast.

For additional images see our latest posting at

We wish to thank all who wrote.
