We are seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate in plant molecular
systematics in the laboratory of Linda Watson at Miami University (Ohio) to work
primarily on Asteraceae phylogeny and systematics. There is some degree of
opportunity to explore other systematic-related research projects, provided funding
is available for potential additional projects. Responsibilities include generating
sequence data, phylogenetic reconstruction, data analysis, presentation and
publication, and oversight of routine lab activities. My lab currently has 4 Ph.D.
students (although 2 are finishing shortly) who work on the Eriocaulaceae,
Piperaceae, and Isoetaceae. Miami has a Center for Bioinformatics and Functional
Genomics with three capillary DNA sequencers, a microarray scanner, and all
related equipment such as thermal cyclers, digital imagers, and computers. We also
have a well equipped Electron Microscope Facility and a large herbarium of
500,000+ specimens with funds available for field research and collecting. The
Botany Department is strong in plant systematics with 4 active plant systematists
who specialize in the Isoetaceae, Fabaceae, Rubiaceae, and the Neotropics.

Requires a Ph.D. in Botany or Plant Biology with specialization in Plant Systematics,
and experience in DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Screening of
applications will begin immediately and will continue until position is filled. Send a
CV and list of 3 references to:
