Seismosaurus synonym of Diplodocus

Dear All,
     The annual meeting of the Geological Society of America this fall will include a presentation on the reappraisal of the dinosaur genus Seismosaurus Gillette, 1991.  It seems that it was closer to 33 meters in length (not upwards of 52 meters).  The authors thus suggest that it is a junior synonym of genus Diplodocus.  This is not particularly surprising, given the sinking of a number of generic names into Tyrannosaurus recently.  Years of splitting are thankfully giving way to a new wave of lumping of dinosaur genera.  Anyway, information on the Geological Society of America meeting can be found here:
