Laboratory Manager/Plant Molecular Systematist

        Brooklyn Botanic Garden is seeking a Laboratory Manager/Plant
Molecular Systematist to conduct research in its molecular laboratory.
The successful applicant must be willing to work in collaboration with
other staff scientists conducting research in horticultural taxonomy and
the taxonomy and floristics of plants in the New York metropolitan
region.  The applicant will also occasionally train high school and
college students in basic laboratory methods and develop an independent
research program.  Applicants must have Ph.D. or a Masters degree with
equivalent experience in biology, with training in modern molecular
techniques (e.g. DNA sequencing, PCR based techniques, agarose gel
electrophoresis).  The successful applicant will have an interest either
in plant phylogeny and/or plant population genetics/ applied plant
conservation.
        Founded in 1910 and located on 52 acres in the borough of
Brooklyn in New York City, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, with over 135 full
time staff, including six Ph.D. scientists, is a world-renowned
facility.  BBG's mission is to serve people in its community and the
world by displaying plants, engaging in research, teaching children and
adults, and community outreach. 

Responsibilities will include

*Oversee all administrative aspects of laboratory (e.g. compliance with
safety requirements, ordering of supplies). *Collaborate with other
researchers in the Department of Science at BBG. *Train students in
molecular techniques. *Conduct independent research in plant molecular
systematics, population biology, or conservation. *Seek external funding
to support the laboratory.

Qualifications

*Ph.D. or Masters degree with equivalent experience. *Experience with
modern molecular techniques (e.g. DNA sequencing, PCR based techniques,
agarose gel electrophoresis). *Experience with laboratory safety
requirements.
