Dear all,

The Nature article resulted in a web message from the Amsterdam municipal archive about a
report of 1932 (of the Netherlands Committee for International Nature protection) stating that a
young small human-like creature was shot in Sumatra, and its mother wounded. Locals knew
these dwarfs as Orang pendek or Orang Letjo. See (in Dutch only) http://
Sir Arthur Keith, an anthropologist, studied the specimen to conclude it was a monkey of which
the tail was removed. The story, including the local information about existing small people, never
got attention since that time.
