Laboratory Technician position available at The New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden has an open position for a Laboratory
Technician to assist the director and other participants in the Garden's
Genomics Program with research, and to assist in general operations of
the genomics laboratory.  The research projects currently underway focus
on the molecular mechanisms that underlie the evolution of different
plant morphologies, particularly flower and fruit structure. The
Laboratory Technician will participate in the daily operations of the
facility including:


*        assisting the director with research activities

*        assisting with data analysis

*        training visitors and students in the basic techniques of
molecular biology used in the lab

*        producing and implementing standard laboratory protocols

*        experimenting with new techniques, products, and technologies

*        ordering chemicals and other supplies

*        maintaining safety and other standards



*        B.A. or M.S. in Biology or Biochemistry

*        Experience with standard molecular biology techniques including
nucleic acid (including RNA) extraction, PCR, cloning, etc. Experience
with microarrays, bioinformatics, and/or plant histological techniques
will be a strong positive factor.

*        Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
