from my web page http://cache.ucr.edu/~heraty/yanega.html

Gammaracanthuskytodermogammarus loricatobaicalensis Dybowski, 1926
(amphipod; at 50 characters, the longest binomial)
Ia io Thomas, 1902 (chinese bat; the shortest binomial, probably the
only all-vowel binomial)

The Dybowski name, has, however, been suppressed by an ICZN ruling -
so, even though the genus name is 31 characters long, the one listed
by Paul Kirk (Pseudopalaeospiroplectammina, at 28) is the longest
genus name *in use*.

Peace,
