The genus Befaria L. (Ericaceae) was described by Linnaeus based upon a
letter from Mutis. Mutis wanted the genus to be named for Jose Bejar.
Within about 20 years of Linnaeus' publication the correct spelling,
Bejaria, was published. Since that time both names were used until I
proposed conservation of Bejaria about 10 years ago. It has now been
conserved as Bejaria.

Subject: [Taxacom] Correction of Linnaean names
Can anybody provide an example of any other Linnaean generic name whose
original spelling is considered an "orthographic error" and has since
been corrected, other than by Linnaeus himself, and other than by
conservation of a later spelling?
