[Taxacom] Fwd: Collaborative taxonomy

Dan and Winnie, thanks for your thoughts

GBIF, EOL and CBOL are indeed collaborative, and we are looking at them. What we really miss are ways to evaluate degree of collaboration/integration in the more basic taxonomic disciplines: elaboration of descriptions, revisions, phylogenies, keys etc. There are such initiatives as Assembling the Tree of Life (AToL) and Planetary Biodiversity Inventories (PBI) which we are also looking at but we would like to get an insight into the degree of collaboration also on a smaller scale.

Henrik, another category is highly collaborative 
projects such as GBIF, EOL, CBOL (DNA barcoding), 
and it might be useful to gather stats from each 
of those initiatives to know approximately how 
many individual 
scientists/taxonomists/engineers/street people 
are directly involved in each one of these 
efforts to "reduce fragmentation and to transform 
taxonomy into an integrated science".
