The Collection Manager is responsible for the daily management and development of the Bird Collection, which includes the multiple preparation types typical of modern collections. Duties include all aspects of collection growth and management, such as permitting, collecting expeditions, specimen acquisition and preparation, cat! aloguing and databasing, maintenance, loans, public inquiries and tours, purchasing and budget management, supervision of students and volunteers, and managing the use of the collection. The Collection Manager will assist the Curator in writing proposals and reports of collections-based activities and will also promote the Collection through public outreach, exhibits, reports, and presentations at meetings when appropriate. Minimum qualifications include an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline and experience in specimen-based ornithology (including museum experience), specimen collection and preparation, formal communications on specimen-based science, and data management. The UA Museum is housed in a newly expanded and renovated building on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, just south of the Arctic Circle in Interior Alaska. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew invites applications for the position of IT
Incident Management Team Leader (Science Applications) in the Information
Technology department at Kew.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the IT department’s
science incident management team which is responsible for the delivery of a
customer focussed incident service desk for science applications. The desk
operates on a rota between the hours of 8am to 6pm, delivering a user support
service to resolve acute incidents as efficiently as possible.
You will support the team enabling them to log, handle, investigate and diagnose
incidents as they occur, whilst continuously developing solutions to restore
service according to the agreed service level agreements. You will also provide
in-house training on science applications and consultancy services to enable
users to manage their own data.
A background of working in an IT environment where projects are formally managed
and ITIL procedures implemented is required. Experience of database and web
software development and knowledge of SQL & Java is essential. A recent ITIL
qualification is desirable.
Use your interpersonal skills to establish good relationships and communicate
your ideas clearly with scientists and other IT colleagues. You may also work on
projects in other locations, possibly and occasionally elsewhere within the UK
or overseas.
Salary is from £20,972 per annum and benefits include 30 days holiday per year,
a choice of defined benefit or stakeholder pension, a brand new flexible
benefits scheme introduced June 2008 and a great working environment.
