Research Assistant- Flora Mesoamericana
23 Month Fixed Term Appointment
£25,000-26,000 plus excellent benefits

The Department of Botany is currently looking to appoint a Research Assistant on an international project to produce a complete floristic treatment of the plants of southern Mexico and Central America. Flora Mesoamericana is one of the major Botany Department projects and is a collaborative project between the NHM, the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Instituto de Biología of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico, with hundreds of contributors worldwide.
Your responsibilities will include writing taxonomic treatments of the remaining families to be treated at the Museum, finishing partially completed treatments, and checking treatments produced by other contributors against the herbarium at BM. Strict deadlines will apply and the candidate will be able to produce taxonomic treatments of a variety of different plant families.
Candidates should have a higher degree in biology or a related subject and experience in plant taxonomy, writing taxonomic descriptions, working with pant collections and with working in a team; experience with Neotropical plants is preferred but not required. The position is available for 23 months beginning from June 2008.
