Dear colleagues,

A post-doctoral fellowship jointly funded by the Australian Biological Resources Study and Botanic Gardens Trust Sydney, is available for an outstanding systematist to conduct research on the systematics, phylogeography and population genetics of the plant family Lauraceae in Australia. The candidate will use a combination of molecular and morphological data and techniques to analyse the evolutionary history of this group from phylogenetic to population levels. Experience with molecular techniques and a demonstrated ability to interpret complex genetic and evolutionary data is required. While a botanical background and experience in coalescent analysis and population genetics theory are not essential, all of these skills will be used in the course of the study. Please note applicants MUST have Australian residency or citizenship. The project will be based at the National Herbarium of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia with a high likelihood of an extended period of research at the Australian Tropical Herbarium in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The position is available for one year with the possibility of extension for two further years subject to progress and funding availability.
For further details please contact Darren Crayn (<mailto:darren.crayn at jcu.edu.au>darren.crayn at jcu.edu.au), <mailto:maurizio.rossetto at rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au>Maurizio Rosseto (maurizio.rossetto at rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au) or Peter Weston (<mailto:peter.weston at rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au>peter.weston at rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au) . Applications close on the 16 May 2008.

Regards
