Dear Colleagues,

I am in the process of submitting a grant proposal to IMLS (Institute of
Museum and Library Services) for money to database our natural history
collections.

As part of this project we are planning on hiring an expert consultant
to assess our various categories of specimens-- e.g. minerals, birds,
insects, shells. We're interested to know the scientific (and monetary,
if any) value of our collections, and where they "fit" in the context of
other, similar collections. In addition, we'd like to know what sort of
collections improvements we might make in the future with regards to
storage, etc.

I've tracked down "experts" in most of these categories but I'm still
searching for someone who is qualified to assess our shell collection.
At c. 7,500 shells, these specimens represent the bulk of our natural
history specimens.

If funded, the expert consultant will come visit our museum for about 5
days and pore over the collections (and associated computer database
records, which will be completed by the time the consultant visits). Not
quite sure about the pay but it will be appropriate to experience. We're
looking for someone who has a strong record of malacology curatorial
experience, as well as research publications. This would occur sometime
in the summer of 2010, I predict (as I say, if the grant proposal is
selected for funding).

If you are interested (or know of someone who might be), please pass all
contact details, and a CV, to me at:

Thank you very much.

Best wishes,

Scott
