The Western Australian Herbarium will be moving to new premises as part of a Biodiversity Science Centre in 2010. The building, located at the DEC Kensington site off Hayman Road (approximately 1 km from the current Herbarium), will be a state-of-the-art complex with improved facilities for the collection, staff and visitors.
The move to the new building will inevitably cause disruptions to our normal services.
This posting is to advise you that there has been slippage in move dates from the previous posting in July, caused by delays in the building and fit-out schedules.
The inward and outward loans program, exchange program, image, scanning and identification requests and lodgements at the Herbarium will now close on 1 April 2010. Requests lodged before that date will be honoured; urgent requests after that date will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as servicing the request will depend on its size and the accessibility of the collections at that time.
The Research Collection and Reference Herbarium will remain open to visitors until 23 July 2010. The Reference Herbarium will reopen in the new building on 10 August 2010; the Research Collection will reopen on 1 November 2010.
It is anticipated that all programs including visitor access will reopen 1 November 2010.
Please note that further adjustment to dates is possible, most likely involving further delays. We recommend that work projects involving the Herbarium be planned accordingly, particularly paying attention to scheduling of jobs around these dates. We will let you know if further adjustments to these dates become necessary.
