The staff of the Herbarium Pacificum (BISH) sadly communicates the passing of our friend and colleague Jack Fisher this past Sunday. Jack was an algal specialist for many years at the Bishop Museum.

He was especially well known and admired for his exceptional and artistic skill in the preparation of permanent algae slides. A recent article in Hana Hou! (the magazine of Hawaiian Airlines), entitled "The Art of Algae", showcased Jack's work at Bishop Museum and won a first place award at this year's Hawaii Society for Professional Journalism awards in the category of Best Feature/Short Form.

We request that inquiries about algal specimens or loans be sent to the collections manager of Herbarium Pacificum, N. Harbottle (napuah at bishopmseum.org).
