[Taxacom] "Thanks in advance"? (was: PDF request)

Hi All,
Sorry, Stephen, I don't mean to pick on you in particular, but
just an observation on a general trend in Internet requests. Such
requests are increasingly common, so I personally find those followed by

"thanks in advance" increasingly bothersome.

Many perhaps still regard attaching a "thanks in advance" as some
form of internet politeness, but it has become so overused that it is
likely to become increasingly viewed as actually the opposite (not
polite). For those who use it, be aware that it could strike more and
more people as irritating, as though the requester can't be bothered to
personally thank you AFTER you actually help them.

Instead of "thanks in advance", perhaps a simple "thanks" in the
request (PLUS a personal thank you after receiving the requested
information) should actually be regarded as the polite thing to do.
Taking a short cut with only a "thanks in advance" could increasingly
irritate many, and you thus risk not getting a response by those who
might be able to help you.
--------My two cents worth on this trend,
