Dear Taxacomers

GBIF would like to announce that there's a new GBIF text available for public review: Guidelines for the capture and management of digital zoological names information, by Francisco W. Welter-Schultes. You can find the text at http://community.gbif.org/pg/file/read/22111/.

This guide provides detailed advice to those working with zoological names on how to digitize and manage this type of information in a standard and consistent way. It includes a guide to verifying the correctness of zoological names and a best practice guide for uniform spellings, with particular focus on the names of the authors. This text aims to complement the existing set of GBIF documents on how to deal with names and taxonomic information.

We seek now input from the external reviewer and communities on the text, suggestions, identification of potential gaps, inaccuracies, etc.

The public review period ends the 20th April 2012. The author will consider all comments received and a final version will be released soon afterwards.

We would appreciate if you could forward this information to the relevant communities in your countries and organizations. Please send your comments through the community site at http://community.gbif.org/pg/file/read/22111/ (you need to be logged-in to add comments) or through training at gbif.org.

Please forward this message to any relevant contact or mailing list. Many thanks once again for your assistance!

with regards,

David Remsen
